Overview
L’Oreal is one of the best-known names in skincare, thanks to its long history of cosmetic success. Its line of creams, lotions and makeup are well regarded by consumers everywhere and continue to lead sales in retail stores around the country. Recently, L’Oreal decided to jump onto the anti-wrinkle bandwagon and release its own anti-wrinkle formula, called Collagen Filler. While we’d like to believe that a cosmetic leader like L’Oreal would also produce a high-end wrinkle reducer, their effort actually falls short.
Featured Ingredients
As hard as it might be to believe, but L’Oreal Collagen Filler does not seem to contain any of the more effective anti-aging ingredients available today. Instead, this formula contains Shark Liver Oil, Vitamin E, and Boswellia Extract, in addition to a compound called “Collagen Bio-Spheres.” Shark Liver Oil is used because this source is believed to provide Glucosamine, which does have benefits for the skin. But the use of Shark Liver seems questionable. Not only does this come from an overhunted animal, but the actual amount of Glucosamine does seem to be weak in comparison to other ingredients such as Glucosamine Complex. Vitamin E is a known antioxidant, but skin protection and anti-aging effects may take as long as 8 weeks to become noticeable. Boswellia is derived from the Indian Frankincense tree and does seem to have some anti-inflammatory effects, which would be beneficial for the skin, since many effects of aging are exacerbated by inflammation. But the research on Boswellia has only been conducted on the oral form of this extract, so no research is available to verify this effect via topical delivery. Collagen Bio-Spheres do seem to offer a similar benefit as Lifting Spheres, because they soak up moisture and swell, lifting up skin from underneath. But no data is available to verify this effect, and Lifting Spheres do seem more effective in comparison.
Web Site Description
While the L’Oreal web site is attractive, like most of the company’s efforts, it is sparse on useful information for the average online consumer. The site does not contain any customer testimonials and there is a noticeable lack of information about the featured ingredients. In addition, a free trial is not available, meaning that consumers are forced into buying a full supply if they want to try it.
Positives
- Collagen BioSpheres is a good concept, but not as effect as Lifting Spheres
Negatives
- Boswellia is unproven for the skin
- Shark Liver Oil seems to make use of an unethical animal source
- No testimonals
- No free trial offered
Conclusion
Even though many members of the AntiAging-Reviews.com team has been previously impressed by L’Oreal’s history of putting out quality cosmetic products and make up, the company’s first effort at a wrinkle reducer does fall short. Collagen Filler simply doesn’t contain the right ingredients to make us believe that it will help reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
