Overview
Aveeno first became famous for its bath treatments back in 1945, during which the company was known for finding natural ways of making skin feel softer and more moisturized. In 2002, Aveeno developed a line of products for facial skin, including its Positively Radiant wrinkle cream. All Aveeno products apparently take advantage of its patented Total Soy Complex and blend it with a combination of botanical ingredients known for their ability to help promote radiant skin.
Featured Ingredients
Total Soy Complex is a specially processed blend of soybean extract and oils. According to Aveeno, this ingredient helps deliver soy-based proteins into the skin in the hopes of strengthening the key fibers for youthful skin, including collagen and elastin. The company claims that this soy-based complex is hypoallergenic, but considering the recent rise in soy allergies among the general public, we caution those with sensitivities to check with a physician before using this product.
Aveeno Positively Radiant also contains Vitamin B5 and Vitamin E, which are supposed to provide antioxidant protection for the skin. While both ingredients have in fact been shown to help keep skin resistant to free radicals caused by air pollutants, sun damage and other damaging compounds, they are being used less often than 10 years ago, since newer antioxidants from natural sources (such as Green Tea, White Tea and Grape Seed Extract) may be more effective and non-synthetic.
Web Site Description
The most impressive part of the Aveeno web site is its Skin Care FAQs section, which goes into a thorough explanation of Soy and its benefits for the skin. The research does seem impressive, but while there was plenty of backup for the claim that Total Soy Complex seems to soften the skin and give it a more youthful appearance, we found the research on the wrinkle reduction to be a bit limited. In addition, no customer testimonials were posted, so it may be difficult to ascertain how well Aveeno Positively Radiant has worked for real customers. Plus, we were disappointed to find that the company does not offer a free trial of the formula, meaning that customers are expected to pay full price for a product they may not end up liking.
Positives
- Total Soy Complex does seem to have a moisturizing effect on the skin
Negatives
- Research on wrinkle reduction seems limited
- No customer testimonials
- No free trial offered
Conclusion
Based on our analysis of Aveeno Positively Radiant, it seems that the product would make a good choice as a backup or support formula to assist another wrinkle reducer. But as a wrinkle reducer itself, the formula seems a bit weak. In addition, the AntiAging-Reviews.com research team feels more comfortable with products that let you try it before you buy it, giving consumers the best chance to see for themselves if a product truly reduces wrinkles and fine lines.
